NUUK JEWELLERY

Designed in Portugal by a mother-daughter duo, NUUK has to have some of the most unique designs I’ve seen. To me, the NUUK girl is someone you hear before you see them. They enter a room with a contagious laugh and the jangle of stacks of bracelets, totally relaxed with that never-leaving “I just got back from holidays” glow.

Highly recommend a visit to their showroom in Porto to truly play around with creating your own ring stack.

Simuero

Currently obsessed with these funky toe rings. I am known to wear flip flops in every situation (regrettably to the clubs as well), yet accessorising with toe rings was something I never considered. This is such a fun & chic way to spice it up. Simuero is a brand based out of Valencia, Spain.

The Simuero girl has spent all day in the sun and quickly jumped into a HAND OVER set keeping her tussled, salty hair just as is for a couple of spritz’s and a side of calamari by the beach.

REAL FINE STUDIO

Real Fine Studios brings the heirloom aspiration to life through timeless pieces handcrafted in Los Angeles by Australian designer, Eliza O’Connor. From rings to necklaces, each design feels personal, with a playful yet considered use of colour.

Without a doubt, the Real Fine girl is classy but keeps her finger on the pulse. She’s the bare faced beauty you’ll find lounging at next week’s hot spot.

Matilda Foley

Matilda Foley is a bespoke Australian jewellery label crafting pieces made to be worn and loved. What drew me in was how considered the designs felt, showcasing Australian sapphires and birthstones.

The Matilda Foley girl is seen at your local farm-to-table scanning the menu for the natural wines. She’s ever so casual, styling her deiji studios blouse with a pair of hunter boots she picked up at the garden store.

NUDE JEWELRY

NUDE is unique in the subtleness of their designs. Handcrafted in 18K gold, the designs appear simple on first glance, but up close you can truly appreciate the attention to detail.

In my mind, the NUDE girl sees individuality as a luxury. She’s on the hunt for treasures and probably wearing a belt she found in Marrakech or loafers she picked up in Florence.

I also really enjoyed reading the above essay on personal taste as a dynamic concept that extends beyond simply what you are wearing. This is an idea i’ve been trying to articulate for a while.

The older I get, the more I realise that style is less about clothing and more about how you see the world. Fashion simply happens to be one way of expressing it.

There is nothing I love more than a “sleepover” game. Whether it’s red flag/green flag, guess who, or would you rather I am always down to play a round. Armed with a pen and blank paper, I can make up any kind of game.

why madrid?

Two summer’s ago I unexpectedly found myself living in Madrid. For my study abroad semester I always believed I would end up in London, but a last minute decision, my brother’s suggestion, and desire to do something different and learn a new language - I found myself in Spain’s capital, Madrid.

Madrid not only happens to be the sunniest capital in Europe, it is also filled with the best gastronomy scene, incredible bars, world class art museums, cool concept stores, and of course, endless tapas.

I hate to use this word but Madrid is so chic. Not only are the streets beautiful, but the women walking them are just as, if not more, elegant.

It also happens that one of my first articles to be published in print was my guide to Madrid! Aspects of this guide are taken from my article published in Style Magazines.

where to eat & drink

True locals eat at 9pm. Don’t be surprised if the restaurant is empty at 8pm (for them that’s like a 5pm res). While I was overseas I kept a running notes list of all the places I ate which totalled to well over 100 places. It’s pretty hard to narrow down the best of the best but these spots are very well deserving.

Admittedly I lived in Madrid, but I did a few staycays and recommended places for my friends.

• Brach Madrid - boutique hotel on Gran Via designed by Philippe Starck.

• Rosewood Villa Magna - elegant rooms in the heart of Salamanca

where to play & shop

Madrid is the European capital of culture. Known for the Golden Triangle of Art, you can find world-renowned museums – the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum – all in walking distance. You can’t miss Madrid’s Central Park, El Retiro, an escape from the metropolitan chaos. Get lost amongst the pristine gardens, spot peacocks, visit the Crystal Palace, or hire row boats for just four euros. You can’t miss the classic historical sights of Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel.

One thing about Madrilenians is they know how to party, which is why they take a siesta mid afternoon. After a quick nap, it’s back to socialising with the terraces filled with people drinking and laughing. For a night out hit up Victoria or Istar – the coolest people will be there and the best djs will be playing. But if wholesome is more your vibe, Madrid has the most beautiful workout studios that require no-to-minimal Spanish to follow along. My favourite is gorgeous Batelier studio off Retiro Park or in Chamberí.

The most stylish women are found in Madrid (check out Madrilenians in Madrid if you don’t believe me). Spanish women know elegance, mastering the art of building outfits that are both polished and effortlessly relaxed. So, shop like a local with these hidden (and not so hidden) gems.

Recently I was out to dinner with a new friend and she was sharing this beautiful story of how at a real low moment with a failed talking stage, she admitted defeat, asking is it really that hard to take a girl out for a nice dinner! And to her surprise, a week later, her best mate had organised a special dinner reservation at a swanky restraunt.

It wasn’t the night of fine dining and getting dressed to the nines that made her feel complete. No. Rather, as I listened to her share this funny ol’ story, it became abundantly clear that what filled her with joy was far stronger than a fun night out. It was that her friend saw her, acknowledged her at her low, and went out of their way to make her feel loved.

And I think selfishly back to a time when I saw a guy who failed to make dinner plans then cancelled last minute. Instead of moping around feeling helpless, unloved, all alone, I called up my best friends, who, appalled by his behaviour, picked me up and took me out to dinner & drinks. If I can spend a night crying with laughter with my closest girlfriends, why on earth would I spend it crying over a boy?

What I’m trying to say is I take the love shown by my friends as exemplars for romantic partners. From surprise “just because” flowers to showing up with a care package when I’m sick, or supporting me at events to simply being a shoulder to cry on, my friends have been the greatest supporters in my life.

I have boxes of filled with little “i love you” and “thinking of you” notes under my bed, and endless bouquets of flowers on my bedside table. I have hundreds of film photos, and a million more memories that I will cherish forever. What I have, are the greatest friends in the world.

I am so incredibly grateful for for the beautiful friendships because I do believe it to be true, that we accept the love we think we deserve. And if we can surround ourselves with people who genuinely care for us, who make us laugh till our cheeks hurt, who expand our minds, who listen to every little complaint and every big dream, then it’s pretty difficult for some underserving loser to claim a place in our life.

I love loudly because that’s how I love my friends.

your friends are the ones who will open the door when you’re crying, listen through hiccups of sobs, and get you back up on your feet.

your friends are the ones who will dance and belt the lyrics of your favourite songs until the sun rises.

your friends are the ones who will surprise you for your birthday, flowers in hand, making you feel like the luckiest girl on earth.

your friends are the ones who will tell you to rip the bandaid off and just do it, and be beside you every step of the way.

your friends are the ones who will drag you out of bed and make you touch grass when all you want to do is rot away.

your friends are the ones who can clock a day dream vs an anxious spiral, and snap you back into reality.

and if you happen to be lucky enough, a special someone may come along and add to all of this, but they can never ever replace it.

However, I do want to add it is a two way street:

• Be a cheerleader! Celebrate your friends be it a promotion, trying something new, a birthday, a breakup - it doesn’t matter, but it does matter.

• Be a shoulder to cry on.

• Show up. If you have the ability to, visit your friends when they move, make the effort.

• Text first! Too many people are scared to reach out but that’s how the connection begins.

• Be there when it matters most. Offer to pick them up from the airport or doctors, or watch their play or visit their exhibition.

There is nothing more beautiful in this world than friendship. And I happen to be surrounded by beauty every day.

I am a strong believer in manifestation and trusting your gut. If someone lays out a deck of tarot cards, best believe I am taking the time to hover and really feel the gravitational pull of the card I am most drawn to.

I treat Pinterest with the same intentionality and presence. I use the same practice of intuition and instinct when deciding which images I should pin.

My board, “monday moodboard”, is full of beautiful imagery that simply spoke to me.

You’ll find of course outfits, but more importantly the energy of the person wearing them, patterns, food, art work, drinks, landscapes, interiors. It’s all about the vibe. When getting dressed I want to emulate the energy of my Pinterest board.

For me this looks like adding dots of colour like the funfetti latte I have saved, or wearing a softer more feminine dress inspired by Xi Pan paintings, or being more intentional with the smaller details like jewellery.

Then it comes to reflecting on the images. Why did I like this? Why was I drawn to it?

You’ll start to learn more about yourself through this process. For example, I found I was drawn to artists like Rothko and Gustav Klimt who utilised colour throughout their paintings. So, even though I’ve never intentionally studied fashion or colour theory, my outfits seem to subtly incorporate the palettes of these artists.

Through this reflection I also realised I started to pin a range of landscapes that reminded me of home - sweeping blue skies and green grass covered in flowers. These colours repeatedly show up in my wardrobe.

Likewise the interiors that I pinned all had this eclectic, lived-in feel. Elements of patterned wallpaper and animal print chairs started to show up in my closet whether though the fabric of a jacket or the silhouette of cool jeans I thrifted. It’s even down to the fact I had started saving handheld fans which translated to my wardrobe through the embroidery in blouses.

Use Pinterest in this way and you’ll slowly start to develop a cohesive sense of style. Now, if you were to scroll my board, you’d probably struggle to find the streamlined sense of style I’ve been talking about. But this is exactly the point. I know that the invisible string tying all these pins together is the emotion that they excite in me.

Personal style is personal for a reason. It is an accumulation of your lived experiences.

Ultimately what I am trying to say is get out! live! reflect! Ditch the TikToks or Instagram carousels telling you how to dress for summer - or at the very least sit with it and ask yourself what do you actually resonate with.

Use Pinterest as a reflective exercise and you’ll find yourself drawn to images that remind you of home, a friend, a place you once visited, or a moment in time you want to relive. How I dress is how I present myself to the world. My closet is full of clothes I collected while travelling, thrift treasures, and staples that have stood the test of time. No replicated Pinterest fit could express that.

But I think this logic applies beyond a certain 18,000 word project. It’s telling yourself you’re a terrible chef because you didn’t cook much growing up or a lame excuse to not write because you didn’t study journalism at uni.

Everyone is a beginner at some point, and it’s a marathon, not a sprint. But you have to start to even qualify for the race. So, you can start right now, and still cross the finishing line with flying colours. And I can write my thesis.

Lately I have read far too many books on political economy about the meaning of liberty, so I am in a desperate search of a classic fiction book to take my mind of things.

Library Science is the first place I hit up for some recs because Kaia Gerber is the one who introduced me to my favourite novels: Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino and Play It As It Lays by Joan Didion. Next on my list is Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay.

I also saw this video on TikTok (yes, on one of my scrolls after deleting and re-downloading for the fifth time this week) where a girl asked to count how many blue plates there were in a photo. Then after the photo disappeared she asked how many green, or red, or yellow you could recall. See, you didn’t focus on those plates so you ignored them.

And when I think of the past week all I can recall are long study seshes and barely scraping the deadlines, but in the midst of that I had a beautiful pilates class and coffee date with Jen, taco and marg night with the girls, I saw Ani for a matcha run at the markets, ran into friends on campus, cooked plenty of meals with my brother, and had an incredibly OTT black tie party.

So as simple as it is, reframing focus can make a world of difference. Especially when things become such a blur as you focus on one thing (uni) it’s so important to ZOOM OUT and notice what’s around you. Whether that be your favourite song on the radio, a thoughtful text message, a super green matcha, or a cozy bed, there is always something to be grateful for!

Henri Matisse, a friend of Picasso, was a French artist known for his radical early experiments in colour. One thing I have noticed is a bag makes the outfit. And there is nothing more difficult than trying to make a summer outfit look good when quite frankly all you want to wear is a swimsuit. I started following Mélisse Martineau because she worked at DVF and has the most fun sense of style. So naturally when she came out with a brand of her own I was immediately influenced. Each bag is handmade from deadstock textiles sourced in New York City. She does limited drops of one-of-a-kind patters, so I definitely recommend following @melissenewyork on Instagram to keep up to date! For the most gorg handmade clutches, you need to turn to RENNK. So, on Wednesday, some friends from uni, some from high school, and even some from primary school all turned up to HSW to show Chloe the best of what Brisbane has to offer… Felons Trivia.

Despite calling on a totally random assortment of friends, everyone instantly clicked. After rounds of trivia, laughing too hard we couldn’t hear the questions, too many photos, and winning the quiz frog, we somehow found ourselves on the dance floor. When we got home Chloe couldn’t stop raving about how beautiful, kind, and fun they all were. And I couldn’t stop thinking about that.

There’s the old time saying: you are the company you keep. If that’s true, then I am the luckiest girl alive.

I could only hope to one day have the compassion of Abi, the courage of Katie, the playfulness of Isabelle, the fire of Lucia, the dedication of Ani, the loyalty of Emily, and the energy of Yas.

We are the sum of those we surround ourselves with. Every day I am inspired by those around me. I strive to be as hardworking, as clever, as sensitive, and as passionate as my friends. And I believe this to be the greatest gift of friendship. To not only have your people to dance the night away with, but to unknowingly shape you into the person you dream of becoming.

Had some real sibling bonding time and made my brother watch Leap Year with me. Nothing is more fun than watching a dumb movie and making even dumber jokes about it days later.

If you thought Courtney Grow’s wardrobe was colourful, you have got nothing on Sophie Cohen (aka Soco). Really enjoyed listening to this ep on her career path and taking the leap to truly trust her talent and eye.

I am well aware I sound like an Olivia Rodrigo mega fan. But I am so fascinated by her talent and approach to the music industry. So in honour of her upcoming album, I’ve been listening to a lot of her interviews and really enjoyed this one with Popcast.

If you don’t know, Popcast is the New York Time’s music podcast and they have excellent in depth interviews with artists. Other interviews I enjoyed were Earl Sweatshirt’s and Jack Harlow’s.

I found myself referencing my Pinterest boards a lot. When I scroll back through these “vision boards” I created years ago, I am shocked by how many of those images now resemble moments in my own camera roll.

For as long as I can remember, I have been pinning images that speak to my concept of the future. I’ve always had a 5-10 year vision board and smaller yearly ones. But recently, I’ve started curating mood boards for the week ahead.

My close friends know the drill.

Every Monday I post my “MONDAY MOODBOARD”, a collection of pins that have inspired me for the week ahead.

It’s ritualistic. There’s something powerful about curating images that speak to me whether goals or mindset I want to adopt.

Through this practice, you begin to gain clarity on what genuinely excites you and what you naturally gravitate toward. As you look at images together, themes start to emerge. I have pinned plenty of wine bars and hiking images, so naturally those become priorities in my life - I organise wine nights with the girls and schedule in evening walks.

I guess this is what I love most about the practice. It’s rarely about the aesthetics of the home or the outfits themselves, but rather what they reveal about who we are and what we’re longing for. Even when you can’t quite articulate a goal, images can offer a glimpse of that feeling you’re chasing.

We’re reaching the halfway point of the year. Naturally that brings up a lot of thoughts of the future as you check in with your goals. Am I on track with the vision I entered the year with?

Since spending a whole month in New York, I have always vowed to return. But I stop myself by saying things like not now, I’m not ready, I don’t have enough money, I don’t know what job I want. But none of those are valid reasons. Why can’t I live in the city I’ve always wanted to?

Anyways! I have got to stop getting ahead of myself. At this moment I just need to focus on finishing uni in order to graduate and live out those dreams.

After my “new” discovery of Depop, I have put myself on a self-imposed shopping ban. The pile of packages was starting to look like a mountain. So instead here are all the pieces on my wish list this week.

I take my mixtapes very seriously. They are almost ritualistic. Every month I curate a playlist of every song I felt deeply resonated at a moment in time. That way, when I am on a 14-hour flight, I can queue every month and scroll through my camera roll, aligning each song with a specific moment of time.

Some of my favourite new songs are Cities of Quartz, Hollow, Alien Love Call, and Hardy. But that didn’t stop some old favourites from making a reoccurrence - White Teeth Teens, The Winner Takes It All, Chosen, Burning Down the House.

My all time favourite internet girl, , spoke on her first (and my favourite) podcast IT Girl. It’s no surprise she advocated for personal growth through journalling - a practice that she says helped her get to know herself better. As much as I love journalling, I find it’s the first thing to drop off when I get busy, so it was a great reminder to pick it back up. I’m also really excited to see what she gets up to in her next chapter living in London!

This week I escaped to the countryside (or at least our Aussie version of it) and stayed in this gorgeous gatehouse on Mount Tambourine. Naturally, this called for cozying up by the fireplace. One of the nights my dad was watching an interview with Michelle Obama and Steven Spielberg. I really enjoyed his outlook on creativity and chasing your dreams.

We also started watching Dan Levy’s newest project - Big Mistakes. You have no idea where it’s going, and I still don’t having got one more episode to watch.

Also had no idea Rachel Sennott was co-creator, and once discovering that everything made total sense from the horribly self obsessed characters to the chaotic storylines and internet references. (In case you don’t know she wrote Bottoms (aka my 2nd fave movie of all time) and also I Love LA) It also has Jack Innanen who I loved from Adults. So thank you Sophia for the recommendation !!

In all honesty my number 1 search this week was how to write a literature review. I know, I know, we are more than halfway through writing the thesis but I’m finally committing to writing the statement of the field & the University of Leeds toolkit really pulled through.

The Waiting Room Alannah Trench

It’s getting cold and my recent trip to the mountains reminded me of my time in the Cotswolds with the crisp air, beautiful autumnal leaves, and most importantly, trench coats. The Waiting Room’s latest winter drop not only has the arguably the best campaign with the Meloche sisters, but also the best trench coats. The Alannah Trench comes in a an olive green which is perfectly contrasted by the corduroy collar and neutral checkered lining.

Sezane Max Shirt Blue Stripe

Look, I think it’s because my brother is going to Paris and I’m totally jealous, that I am obsessing over this button up from Sezane. Tucked into the white denim with brown leather belt and flats it is perfection.

Lately I have been seeing all the cool girls pair their crisp white shirt (button-up or tee, doesn’t matter) and their classic cut denim jeans with a statment belt. And not any ol’ belt. Specifically the B-Low The Belt plaque belt. It’s an upgraded western-inspired look for the modern girl.

Knowing me, it’s not that crazy that I am yet again drooling over a multi-coloured striped knit sweater. It’s my kryptonite. Lisa Says Gah is a brand all about those playful pieces made to stand out and this polo is no exception

The beautiful @nathmontis was wearing this clutch from a small Spanish brand called by AMR. At the moment the clutches are made to order, but I have DM’d them to ask for their backstory. Super excited to see this brand grow!

FLORE FLORE is an Amsterdam-based brand designing cotton classics for the modern woman produced in Portugal. Right now I have my eyes on their gorg fitted ribbed tee in the most flattering shade of pink.

RENGGLI STUDIO Organza Cami

Right now, I am really enjoying leaning into a minimalistic statement top. This cami achieves that with the Japanese organza. Organza is a sheer fabric that gives this beautiful “slippery” effect (note this version is made from polyester, not silk).

The weight of my thesis has been looming over me for months now.

I’m clearly a perfectionist - I’ve come to accept that. The idea of having to be perfect right here, right now, is such an intense expectation to place on someone, so why do I place it on myself? I need to give myself grace and understand that in this moment in my life I am not an all-knowing academic, I am simply a student. My job isn’t to save the world through my research, it is to learn and grow.

I don’t have to be great to write my thesis, but if I want to write a great thesis, I need to write.

Releasing those pressures has honestly been so relieving. I found it so much easier to sit down and start. Granted I still am finding it difficult but hey it’s a start and isn’t that what this is all about? As my friend said: you may as well die trying.

After last week’s hit of retail therapy I ended up coming home from syd to a pile (or should I say mountain) of packages. Naturally I’ve placed myself on a shopping ban; however, I think it’s necessary to review my recent purchases.

The first day I wore the Uniqlo cashmere I got compliments from everyone. It’s soft, relaxed, yet well fitted, and a great colour way. 10/10 would recommend.

I’ve been reaching for this Zara blouse everyday because it elevates a basic jeans and a white top look but still feels casual.

Both pairs of Zara jeans were returned because (as we could’ve all guessed) they are too short.

Olivia dropped her latest single the cure on Friday and it was very important we listened to it right on 2pm. dude this song. I actually can’t because according to spotify I have already listened to it 42 times and it hasn’t been 24 hours since it’s release.

Olivia capture the level of vulnerability unique to romantic relationships. They amplify the best parts of yourself and magnify the uncomfortable parts. When you get up close and personal you suddenly find yourself looking back on yourself. All of a sudden there’s this mirror in front of you and you feel so exposed.

All that’s been left unresolved and pushed aside starts to come up and you soon realise they aren’t the one to solve it. I’m in awe of how she captured that exact realisation that we’ve all tried so hard to ignore - that their love will never be the cure.

Anyways, I’m getting carried away. This is truly my favourite Olivia song - there’s so much emotion behind it it. It’s brutally honest.

Isabelle and I spent Thursday driving across the city - from Kin, to uni, back to La Burns - and of course, with her being Irish, I made sure to queue all my favourite songs from her homeland. She introduced me to Favourite by Fontaines D.C. and I showed her Starburster. From now on, I only want to listen to angry Irish rock.

Caught up on some Therapuss episodes and particularly enjoyed this one with SNL star Marcello Hernandez. Also, if you haven’t watched the movie Saturday Night with Kaia Gerber you need to asap.

At the end of high school I became a lot more experimental with colour. I guess that’s greatly due to the fact I was constantly in a thrift store. Since graduating and starting uni I started shopping at DISSH and other stores that felt more grown up. And sticking to a neutral palette was a signifier of being grown up. *I will add here that travelling frequently meant I ended up building a capsule wardrobe, and what’s easier to mix and match than a bunch of black, white, and tonal clothes.

Anyways, it’s not as though I have had enough of the basics and have irrationally decided to become a maximalist, I just believe there is an opportunity to add more colour back. Like brining a bit of those summer hues into my winter looks.

So, without further a due, here are four Australian fashion brands that do colour right!

1. Olga Joan

Olga Joan experiments with colour in a playful and feminine way. They have great basics (singlets, log sleeves, capris - you name it) and I highly recommend layering different colours on top of each other. I love their tagline - quality, considered, cute - this is reflected in commitment to sustainability from fibre to finish.

2. With Harper Lu

At the start of the year I had a 21st which had the theme of COLOUR so I immediately jumped in the car and drove to my favourite boutique in Brisbane, Lidos Boutique. Lidos stocks an incredible Australian label called With Harper Lu. We settled on the gorg halter maxi dress, and it was a hit. Basically they have so many colourful dresses and skirts. In fact you’ve undoubtably seen the viral dress Paige Lorenz wore to the Aus Open last year.

3. BLANCH Wear

I saw BLANCH on my FYP with their layered dress overlayed with text: dressing like an icecream. They are a Perth based brand that are providing a refreshing take on a colourful wardrobe. I would argue that while still bold, their colours are softer and more muted, making them more accessible for those starting to add colour back. They produce in small batches to ensure high quality and use natural fabrics and low-waste methods.

4. Faithfull The Brand

For those more refined and considered, I would turn to FAITHFULL. They seem to really lean into that vintage-inspired look, so you get these great pieces with an almost earthy palette. I do also love their more vibrant multicoloured knitwear and swim. Overall their pieces allow you to embrace colour in an easily wearable way.

Can you mourn unlived lives? Because every time I am down in Sydney I can’t help but mourn the what could’ve been if I stayed.

I accidentally butt-dialled Jen while I was writing this and was immediately bought back to reality. How lucky I am to have such beautiful friendships that make me want to stay here in Syd, but simultaneously, how lucky I am to have the most fulfilling, supportive, loving, exciting friendships back home.

And on the same note, how lucky am I to be able to visit my LD friends as frequently as I do. I caught up with Chloe to study and she said, “I feel like I just saw you,” and she was right - I was here only a couple of weeks ago.

So look, tbh I get emo over these things, I definitely suffer from major bouts of nostalgia. Anyways, what a week! It started with the Statement of Intent, which required presenting my currently underdeveloped thesis to a board of academics. Safe to say I’ve been scared into refocusing my efforts back to uni. But nothing a good yoga class can’t fix.

And of course, I flew down to Sydney for fashion week and catching up with friends/family. Abbey, Liv and I had so much fun playing trivia at CLD. We also danced the night away at the FBF fashion week after party. Saw some mates for the Food, Beer & Footy festival (very me, I know), and caught up with some new London friends. I also became addicted to lime biking so watch out!

So part of this statement of intent workshop was listening to everyone else’s ideas in the honours cohort. One of the girls is completing her thesis on Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run album. Naturally I listened to it on the car ride home. Can’t say it’s my fave album but I do appreciate the experimental production and jazz-rock fusion.

One song that I am listening to on repeat is Olivia Rodrigo’s cover of I Love You by Fontaines DC - the power of the bridge is incredibly energising.

I have always advocated for the importance of reading translated fiction - I actually wrote about my connection to translated fiction and travel here. Dua beautifully articulated the experience of reading fictional stories from all over the world highlighting the necessity of hearing the perspective of others as an “antidote to Othering”.

Continued my film education by watching Good Will Hunting. I would be lying if I said I didn’t sob my heart out. I want to watch this movie over and over and over again. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have created a masterpiece with this - so real and raw. And Chuckie’s speech about the best time of his day oh. my. god. tears. I feel like you can really see the strength of their own personal friendship bleed through with the depth of all the different relationships throughout.

There’s far too many layers to this movie and I’m not here to write a review but if you do happen to be reading this please give this movie a good watch.

After getting back from Indonesia (and knowing I have a few more travel stints coming up), I really wanted to solidify a routine. So, I took this week to get clear on my May goals and make a conscious effort to re-prioritise uni work. My beautiful friend Jen got me out of bed on Friday and we went to Kin cafe for some matcha and a new study space. And honestly Friday turned out to be exactly what I needed (yet not what I planned). A friend from Sydney was visiting so I caught up with her for drinks at Felons, I made dinner for the fam, I practiced my yoga routine, and I got through more of my thesis work. This weekend was also mother’s day, and we celebrated with a lovely lunch at Stilts for some quality family time. Honestly, I am feeling really inspired at the moment & noticing the beauty all around. May is truly such a beautiful time of year - simply taking in the crispness of a morning walk feels idyllic.

A six hour plane ride allows for plethora listening time to catch up on podcast episodes. Listen to It Girl for insightful interviews with some of the coolest women in fashion and beyond. I especially enjoyed the interview with Michelle Ochs, the creative director of Hervé Léger, and hearing about her journey from creating her own brand to her thoughts on the powerful tool that is social media.

Becoming a little more pretentious by listening to a lot more Radiohead.

I finished Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes on the plane home from Bali. I often forget how enjoyable it is to read a book that feels like watching a TV show, since I’m too often reading dense books for uni. But Plum is a brilliant writer and I have her final book, The Debutante Divorcée, in the mail.

I also saw Devil Wears Prada 2 with my mum on Tuesday night. It’s so funny because I grew up watching the first movie with wide eyes and big dreams of what it could be like to work at Runway, and now I get to watch the sequel having worked in the magazine/digital media industry! This did mean a lot of the plot line hit oddly close to home.

I love a contrast and this tee with the red popping out from the collar and cuffs is super cool. Made in Portugal, out of 100% cotton this t-shirt is the perfect fun addition to my wardrobe. Also, demôssa is a Spanish brand based out of Mallorca!

The Mulberry Necklace

If you’re not following Dujanah Jarrar (a.ka. miss duji) then you are living under the rock because she truly has the sickest style ever. Anyways, her and her sister have founded a jewellery brand called House Janolo featuring bold statement rings, necklaces, and bracelets. And this has got to be one of the prettiest necklaces I’ve ever seen. The series of pink Tourmaline is drastically broken up by a single Blue Topaz drop… simply breathtaking.

Jacques Wei Beaded Floral Miniskirt

I saw this skirt while scrolling MT and was immediately drawn to the floral embroidery. It feels very earthy and mystical, and the moss green means it will be perfect for winter night out looks.

The Musa

A brand’s commitment to sustainability is at the forefront of my mind when investing in new pieces, and Póoj Studios truly has amazed me. Their bags are made from cactus leather sourced in Mexico, which requires minimal water, no toxic chemicals, and repurposes leftover cactus from other industries. I love the look of this bag inspired by Mexico’s rich culture, it’s got that classic yet rustic look.

Amphibio Double Layer

Okay how fun is this knit! All of Adrian Schachter’s pieces have this childlike playfulness which everyone needs to channel now and then. It’s unisex so make sure to size down.

Crewneck Sweater - Acid Green Spray

If there is one thing about the French, they know how do do cashmere knits well. I have always loved my American Vintage pieces, and have now recently discovered From Future, which is just as (if not more) colourful! I’m really drawn to the washed out effect that gives the sweater a worn-in, vintage look.

Dries Van Noten Animal Print Blazer

I have been on my DVN game trying to find a cool statement jacket for winter. So when I was scrolling on TRR and saw this blazer, I immediately added it to my wish list. The snake skin effect is made even more fun with the addition of the sequins.

Fiorenzo Silk Top

Reformation does it again with this beautiful and super dainty cami with the cinch waist. Oh how I wish I was going to Paris this summer bc this top would be perfect.

Miranda Top

This top immediately caught my eye when I walked into Magali Pascal. The embroidery is so intricate but the fit is relaxed giving that effortless, elegant look.

Seraya Espresso Sandal

Saw these sandals in almost every boutique, so I asked one of the shop assistants about them. Turns out ISAH is a newly founded Australian/Indonesian brand (how cool!). I really love strappy toe because it gives the impression you are wearing heels but they’re flats.

Verena Mini Dress Green

I visited the Faithfull store in Bali this week and fell in love with everything! I ended up purchasing the most beautiful black top and one piece swimsuit, but this dress is still on my wish list. It reminds me of a dress I tried on at the end of last year from Reformation.

Eden Bikini Top and Bottom

Faithfull also does luxe swimwear, and I particularly love this bikini set. The burnt orange looks perfect against my tan (yet somehow still pale) skin. And for an added bonus, it’s made from a 100% blend of recycled materials.

Escape Underwire One Piece

One piece swimsuits do not have to be boring, and ELCE is a brand that understands this. ELCE is an Australian brand and you can find stores in Canggu and Uluwatu.

The Inca Bucket Hat

My one regret is not buying this hat in Bali. Ani and I were so in love but for some reason couldn’t convince ourselves that we would actually wear it back home (we totally would). Something about a silver shoe really makes an outfit. Wearing all black? A silver heel (or in this case, a thong) completes the look. As we all know, I love a trusty flip flop. These from The Bali Tailor are so fun with the studded strap.

Another Indonesian brand, Design by Omo, has the perfect oversized, slouchy off the shoulder top. If you’re on a summer vacation you defs need some colour in your wardrobe!

This romantic set is from an Indonesian brand called gemme. It’s the perfect top for a dinner out overlooking the ocean. Very delicate and very feminine.

I recently wrote about The Overthought in my Aussie Brands (Menswear Edition) and couldn’t stop thinking about this shirt. It has the perfect cropped fit, made from 100% cotton, and my brother happens to be going to Europe this summer, so I made the purchase!

Carnot Coat

Saw this beautiful check stripe coat on Instagram. In all honesty I’m not usually drown to a blue and red stripe but the colours feel perfectly balanced and the frog buttons are just so elegant.

Major rest and relaxation this week. We celebrated Ani’s 21st birthday in Bali and it was beyond beautiful! Most days were spent in the sun by the water, reading and sharing stories, or we were shopping and trying out all the delicious restaurants.

I truly am so grateful for these moments to travel with my best friends - there is nothing quite like it. You definitely connect on a whole new level and come back with endless inside jokes to constantly reflect on.

MOTW: too many to narrow down but the day spent at Sunday’s beach club or doing morning pilates in our villa are definitely up there.

In all honesty, I did not expect the shopping to be as good as it was. I would definitely go back to Faithfull, Elce Swim, PERSIJE, The Bali Tailor, and all of the leather stores (so many bags still on my wish list).

Stories & Shows

We finally watched Ani’s favourite film, La La Land. A few years ago I sat down to watch it but didn’t get past the first 30mins, I think I found the colours off putting. But oh my god, this time I loved it. It’s inspired me to move to LA. Ani is tortured by the ending but I personally loved it and thought it was happy (?), after all they both achieved their dreams and simply outgrew each other, but that’s life.

Searches

I was desperately searching for a new outfit for dinner because all the clothes I packed were just not me anymore (I really struggle with summer fashion ironically) when I stumbled across PERSIJE. The shop assistant was gorgeous and helped me pull together a look as well as convince me to pick up a few extra pieces like a tank, which is made of materials to keep you cool.
