You Don’t Need a New Wardrobe: How to Style a Tee & Shorts
You don't need a new wardrobe, you just need to learn how to style what you already have.
It’s a common misconception, and one I fall for year after year: you need to buy new clothes each season. It’s time to lear the closet of all your summer clothes and make way for the winter wardrobe. Wrong.
My time living overseas with a tiny closet (much smaller than my already small wardrobe at home) taught me how to seamlessly incorporate those pieces that are strictly for summer into my autumn outfits and somehow into my winter outfits.
So today I am going to share how to style the classic summer combo: shorts and a t-shirt.
SUMMER
A more elevated take on the classic denim shorts, oversized tee, and flip flops. The satin shorts will still keep you as cool as the denim short (and honestly are probably more comfortable imo). A boxy grey tee will give you the perfect silhouette and to dress it up opt for a pair suede ballet flats.

AUTUMN
Arguably one of my most favourite seasons (spoiler alert I actually love all of them), Autumn is the time of the year where you can still get away with wearing short BUT an extra layer over the white tee is necessary for that cooler breeze. So, chuck on a grey sweater, keep it sweet with some lace shorts, and pair it with loafers and socks.
I actually have a pair of Massimo Dutti loafers from last season which are my ride or die, but these ones from Assembly Label are the closet dupes. They have to have that slimline sole and scrunch detailing on the sides - and absolutely no tassels or hardware.

WINTER
Okay don’t come after me. I know this is not a suitable winter outfit for London, but believe me it is very much so for Queensland. I wore this combo all June/July and on the colder nights, I just paired it with stockings. All you need is a good pair of knee high boots (you can’t get better than Alohas).

SPRING
And we are back to the sunnier days and warmer weather where we can get away with chucking on flip flops but maybe opt for a 3/4 length sleeve tee. AGOLDE denim is my favourite but often DISSH and Glassons can have quality cut shorts. And of course no spring fit is complete without some Chimi shades.

Moral of the story - never underestimate what’s already in your wardrobe.
Signing off,
Ella
